There has been so much talk about skincare and makeup on social media. You may have heard people somewhat poking fun at kids wanting to use skincare.I think it's totally fine to use skincare if you know what products are safe to use. While it’s a good idea to start using skincare, you may not know where to start. Maybe you aren’t sure what ingredients in skincare products are safe for young skin, or might harm your skin with the harsh chemicals, or you would like to know what products are worth your money. I hope I can answer some of your questions in this article.

Here are some ingredients in skincare to stay away from if you are young.

  • Retinol (Anti-aging ingredient)

  • Fragrances (Harsh fragrance can cause irritation to your skin)

  • Salicylic acid (only use if you have acne or else it can be harmful)

  • Benzoyl peroxide (often found in acne treatment products), can cause dryness and irritation to young skin

When you first create a skin care routine it should be simple. Think about toner (only if you wear makeup regularly), cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF. If you have specific skin concerns such as acne, you may also want a treatment serum or talk with a dermatologist.

If you are wondering what products are worth the money, I have compared some viral products to see which ones are better for your money and good overall products.

This is just my opinion and I’m not saying the other products are bad, it’s just my preference.

Toners - A deep cleansing liquid to remove all dirt and leftover makeup.

Buy this: Laneige Cream Skin Toner $46 (Mini $16)

Instead of: Glow Recipe Watermelon BHA Pore Tight Toner $35 (Mini $16)

Although I love the glow recipe toner, it smells great, and it’s great for acne, I’ve found it's super exfoliating which isn’t great for young skin, so I always choose the Laneige one.

Cleansers - a cleansing cream or jelly to use in the day or nighttime that removes dirt and oils. Cleansers are similar to toner.

Buy this: Youth To The People Superfood Gentle Cleanser $39 (Mini $16)

Instead of: Drunk Elephant Jelly Cleanser $34 (mini $16)

The Drunk Elephant cleanser just wasn’t anything special in my opinion, I much preferred the Youth To The People one. Youth To The People’s cleanser is made with healthy ingredients like kale, green tea, and vitamins. And does a great job at cleansing my face. The two are equal in price.

Moisturizers - Sometimes cleansers or toners can leave your skin feeling dry, moisturizers can remove the dryness.

Buy This: Bubble Slam Dunk Balancing Moisturizer for normal to dry skin $10

Or: Bubble Level Up Balancing Moisturizer for normal to oily skin $16

Instead of: Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Moisturizer $64 (mini $20)

Bubble products are good for young skin, and their moisturizers are budget friendly. The Drunk Elephant moisturizer is good, but expensive.

SPF - having a simple sunscreen in your skin care routine is always a good idea, even in the winter.

Buy This: Bubble Solar Mate SPF Sunscreen $19

Or: Sun Bum Original SPF Sunscreen Face Lotion $12

Instead of: Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Dew Balm Sunscreen Stick $30

It is important to have sunscreen in your skin care routine. Usually skin care sunscreen is under SPF 50, so you won’t want to use it solely against sun exposure, it’s just good to wear sunscreen even in the winter.

This one was hard, I love the glow recipe sunscreen stick but when it comes to sunscreen. It doesn’t have to be High SPF but cheaper is really the way to go here.

I hope you now know a little more about skin care and taking care of your skin! Remember, you don’t need fancy products to take care of your skin, it’s just a good habit to have a skin care routine. I hope this article was helpful to you and your skin will thank you!
