This issue of Adventures with Ali, I will
be talking about an awesome place with tons of cool things to do, Savannah, GA.
I will be telling you about many things to do and see. From cool places to go,
to fun facts you probably didn’t know, to cool restaurants and unique shopping.
In Savannah, you can stop by the City
Market which has tons of shops where you can buy anything from tourist items
(such as spoons, mugs, and more) to cute outfits. There are also tons of great
restaurants to go to get a bite to eat. One of the most famous, and best, is Vinnie Van Go Go’s Pizza. On certain days, you can even enjoy free live music in the
streets.
Another famous place is Historic River
Street. This street runs along the Savannah River. It is paved with
200-year-old cobblestones, and was home to warehouses for cotton. Due to the
yellow fever and quarantine of 1818 River Street was abandoned. It remained
abandoned for over 100 years, it was later redeveloped in the 1970s and is now
home to a large tourist attraction and host one of the largest St. Patrick's
Day festivals in the world.
There are many restaurants, shopping, and
sightseeing to do on River Street. You can sit upstairs in some of the
restaurants and enjoy eating out on the balcony while watching huge cargo ships
or one of the riverboats pass by. After dinner, you can stop by River Street
Candy and see how they make salt water taffy on a 100-year-old machine. They
even give you free samples. You can visit the Market Place, where they have
lots of homemade items for sale.
Savannah is also well known for it’s famous
squares. Currently there are 22 squares. The plan was built by James Oglethorpe
in the 1700’s. Each Square is like a park which you can hang out at. Some have grassy
areas, statues or a fountain, and they all have a historic story. There is also
a large park known as Forsyth Park. Forsyth Park is a great place to hang out,
see concerts, play sports and see the famous fountain.
There are several cool historic home tours
to visit around town. One of the most famous for all Girl Scouts is the tour of
The Juliette Gordon Low House, the founder of the Girl Scouts. Day and night
tours include Ghost Tours of several haunted spots around town, the Bonaventure
Cemetery tour, movie tours. One of the most famous movies filmed in Savannah
was “The Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil”. This movie is based off
an incident that happened years ago, and features the now famous Bird Girl
Statue.
This has been another “Adventures with Ali”. I hope this helps you to plan a possible
adventure to the historic city of Savannah, GA. Thank you for reading my
article.
